Choosing Your Massage Therapist
With thousands of years of history as a healing art, Massage Therapy recognizes the importance of touch to comfort, heal and nurture. Massage Therapy uses a variety of soft tissue manipulation techniques to treat stress, pain and a variety of physical conditions and disorders.
Massage therapists assess the soft tissue and joints of the body and administer massage treatments to relieve pain and symptoms of stress, or to develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment physical function.
Massage works by acting on and manipulating the body using pressure, tension and motion to tissues including muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, skin or organs (e.g., gastrointestinal).
Effects of a massage include pain relief, reduction in stress, reduced blood pressure and heart rate, prevention/reduction of scar tissue, aids lymphatic flow and improves sleep.
The muscles of the abdominal wall assist in forced exhalation through compression of the abdominal cavity. Healthy abdominal muscles are extremely important clinically in supporting the spine and the abdominal viscera.
Trigger points in these muscles can refer pain into the viscera and cause pain. In addition, a few extra pounds, particularly the unbalanced weight of the protruding “potbelly” exerts a strain on the spine which has a much greater effect than simply the weight itself.
The protruding abdomen has the effect of pulling the body forward forcing the back muscles to contract more strongly to counterbalance.
Benefits of Esthetic Abdominal Massage
Massage is applied to superficial and deep layers of connective tissue to enhance function, aid in the healing process, and promote relaxation and wellbeing.
Deep tissue penetration is achieved using either Gua Sha, cupping or a combination of both. Please speak with our Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor to find out how we can help you.
